Terms and Conditions of Registration

These Terms and Conditions apply to all attendees who have registered for lca2011 and/or lca2011-related events.

Registration

Registering for the conference does not hold your ticket until it has been paid in full. So to ensure that you secure your ticket, pay the registration invoice as soon as possible.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations made prior to 1 December 2010 - any registration fee paid will be refunded in full.
  • Cancellations made between 1 December and 31 December 2010 - incurs a 15% cancellation fee, which will be deducted from any regsitration fee paid. The balance will be refunded.
  • Cancellations made after 31 December 2010 - No refund.

Privacy Notice

In the course of registering for lca2011 and lca2011-related events, lca2011 will collect personal information about attendees such as their name and contact details. This information is required to facilitate registration to lca2011, for catering requirements, and for lca2011 Organisers or their agents, to contact particular attendees as and when required in respect of lca2011. Attendees who do not disclose this personal information will be unable to complete registration at lca2011 and will therefore not be able to attend lca2011.

Personal information will only be disclosed to Linux Australia, the lca2011 umbrella organisation, and to Government agencies where lca2011 Organisers believe disclosure is appropriate for legal compliance and law enforcement; to facilitate court proceedings; to enforce our terms and conditions; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of lca2011, our attendees, or others. lca2011 will not sell your personal information to third parties and will not use your personal information to send promotional material from any of our affiliated partners and/or sponsors.

As part of the registration process attendees will be asked if they would like to subscribe to lca2011 Mailing Lists and/or the linux.conf.au Announce Mailing List. Attendees who subscribe to one or more of these lists will be sent emails from lca2011 Organisers and other subscribers to the Mailing Lists. If at any time, attendees wish to unsubscribe from any of these Mailing Lists, please follow the 'how to unsubscribe' directions on the bottom of any message on the Mailing Lists.

From time to time lca2011 Organisers update their information and website practices. Please regularly review this page for the most recent information about lca2011 Privacy practices.

Network

lca2011 Organisers are providing attendees with access to wired and/or wireless network while attending lca2011 and/or lca2011 related-events. The access to this network is a privilege and not an entitlement, and must be used appropriately. Inappropriate use includes, but is not limited to: unlawful activities, interfering with the equipment or network access of others and not respecting the reasonable expectations of privacy of attendees have for traffic flowing though the network.

If any attendees use the network inappropriately, then the lca2011 organisers will take any enforcement action they consider appropriate. Enforcement action includes but is not limited to:

  • suspending access to the network
  • disconnecting the network permanently
  • the alleged offender may be asked to immediately leave the venue and/or will be prohibited from continuing to attend lca2011 (without reimbursement)
  • the incident may be reported to the Australian Police
  • any other measure the lca2011 Organisers see fit

Beware that for security and operational reasons lca2011 may both monitor and log network traffic.

AV

lca2011 may or may not provide recordings of talks (audio and/or video) given at lca2011. If this service is provided, it is run as a best effort service only. Any recordings will be released as is and when they are ready, which may take some months, and the recordings may be of varying quality.

Discrimination

lca2011 is proud to support diverse groups of people in IT, and will not tolerate in any fashion any intimidation, harassment, and/or any abusive, discriminatory or derogatory behaviour by any attendees of lca2011 and/or lca2011-related events.

Any complaints can be made to the lca2011 Organisers by contacting the Registration Desk during lca2011. All complaints made to lca2011 Organisers will remain confidential, will be taken seriously and investigations will be made. Where lca2011 Organisers consider it appropriate, lca2011 may take any or all of the following measures:

  • the alleged offender may be told to apologise
  • the alleged offender may be told to stop/modify his/her behaviour appropriately
  • the alleged offender may be warned that enforcement action may be taken if the behaviour continues
  • the alleged offender may be asked to immediately leave the venue and/or will be prohibited from continuing to attend lca2011 (without reimbursement)
  • the incident may be reported to the Australian Police and/or Human Rights Commission
  • any other measure the lca2011 Organisers see fit

Media

There are a limited number of Media Passes available to media personnel. Media Passes are free of charge, and entitle media personnel to attend lca2011 with all the entitlements of a Professional registration. Please note, due to the limited numbers of Media Passes available, all Media Passes will need to be approved by the lca2011 Organisers. Notification of whether applications are successful will take place in October.

Any media attending lca2011 are required to identify themselves as "media" to attendees prior to speaking with any attendees of lca2011 on the record. It is the responsibility of the media to introduce themselves to the persons they wish to interview and to arrange any interviews with those persons. The lca2011 Organisers will not make introductions or arrange interviews on behalf of media.

Students

Students who register for a student ticket to attend lca2011 will be required to provide lca2011 Organisers with proof that they are eligible for registration as a student, such as providing a valid full time student ID card.

Alcohol

Liquor licensing laws, requires persons to be aged 18 years and older before they can lawfully drink alcohol in Australia. The licensed premises used as lca2011 venues will not serve alcohol to persons 18 years and under. Those attendees who look under 25 years old, may be required to show identification such as a Passport (non-Australian driver licences are generally not accepted) to licensed premises proving they are 18 years old or older.

Those attendees who are younger than 18 years old, are required to advise lca2011 Organisers of their age, when they register for lca2011. Those attendees may not be able to attend all of the lca2011 social events.

Please consume alcohol responsibly. Please note, licensed premises in Australia are prohibited from selling or supplying alcohol to intoxicated persons. Please adhere to local liquor laws which are available in most licensed establishments and from http://www.olgr.qld.gov.au/

Smoke-free

All lca2011 venues including the social event venues and Open Day venue are smoke-free. If attendees wish to smoke during lca2011 and/or lca2011-related events, they must do so in signed areas. Please consider others and refrain from smoking directly outside the venues' entrance.

Health and Safety

If you are attending lca2011 as a Keynote Presenter, Speaker, Miniconf Organiser or Miniconf Presenter, it is your responsibility to ensure that your talk meets the Health and Safety requirements under Australian law. If you are unsure, please contact lca2011 Organisers on contact@lca2011.linux.org.au to discuss it further.

Immigration/Entry Requirements

Anyone who lives outside Australia will need a passport and may require a visa to gain entry into Australia. Please contact your local Australia Embassy department to determine your travel needs. You should take into account the Cancellation Policy above and do this well in advance of lca2011.
